As we draw to the end of this long and cold term I believe it is helpful to remember those parents who have supported the school with coaching, reading, cheering the children on the sports fields, assisting with fundraising through support of PSG activities, Time With Jesus and for paying your fees on time. THANK YOU.
This short story below reminds me how lucky I am to be a part of Petra and the blessings I receive each day because of your children, our teachers and parents.
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said, “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man walking by took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up.
A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were going. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”
The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way. I wrote : “Today is a beautiful day; but I cannot see it”.”
Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said just that. The second sign reminded people how fortunate they were to have their sight.
Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story – It’s not WHAT you say it’s HOW you say it! Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Think differently and positively. When life gives you 10 reasons to cry, show life that you have 100 reasons to smile. Face the past without regret. Handle your present with confidence and prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Remember also it is a beautiful thing to see a person smiling. But what is even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason for the smile! Faith is not about everything turning out okay. Faith is about being okay no matter how things turn out.
May you touch someone’s heart today and enjoy the up coming holidays with a heart full of gratitude. We wish you a wonderful, happy, warm and peaceful holiday. If you are travelling to far away places, we pray you have a safe journey.
As documented in our Brochure for Parents, parents are reminded that “One term’s notice or a term’s fees in lieu thereof must be paid, if a child is being removed from the school.”
Please advise the office, in writing, if your child will not be returning next year. Please inform us even if you are “thinking” of leaving. Your children talk – but we do need to hear this information from YOU.
BFG!!!!! By Mr N Mpofu
The B.F.G. by Roald Dahl is a book loved by children and adults alike and recently the movie adaptation was released to positive reviews. It only seemed apt that we attempt such a popular story. Translating such an imaginative story to stage proved slightly challenging and much involvement was required from staff and parents but we managed to put on a semi-successful play on 1st and 2nd August.
The cast, a vibrant and enthusiastic group of children from Grades 5 – 7, did their parents and directors proud. The main characters Dean Jones (B.F.G.) and Nonqaba Ncube (Sophie) who had the majority of lines to learn, did an outstanding job of carrying the play and maintaining the energy. Mrs. Van Rensburg and Mr. Mpofu would like to thank all the teachers, parents and children who were involved, for their help and support.
This term, food donations from the pupils will be going to Children’s Homes and Old Peoples’ Homes. Please support this worthy cause. Thank you for your continued support.
